On 07/19/2024, the Lord called home his faithful servant Janice Louise Flake, age 83, of Tallahassee, Florida. With the help of family and friends, she got her final wish to pass peacefully in Florida.
The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family.
Janice was born on November 24, 1940, to Joseph Berlen and Carrie Eloise (Clark) Flake at their home-place in Cottonwood Township, Lerna, Illinois. She transferred from Cumberland High School prior to her Senior year and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, Illinois in 1958. She went on to earn a Bachelors, Masters, and then a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on October 15, 1973. She was initiated as a member of Kappa Mu Epsilon (Honorary Mathematics Society) May 3, 1960.
Teaching was her passion. Her career took her through five years on the faculty at Eastern Illinois University from 1969-1974 and ten years on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Urbana
